The Body of Believers is not an organization but an organism with Christ as its head. Higher Together is not a formal organization or a coalition of churches as these tend to be exclusive. Higher Together is inclusive – God’s one body, through Jesus, voluntarily working together to accomplish more of God’s heart for Harford County.
There is no formal or ongoing commitment to Higher Together required. You discern how you are led by the Spirit to participate in each event.
Higher Together doesn’t seek to shift sheep between flocks but to find the lost sheep. It doesn’t seek to lift up a specific church but to lift up the Shepherd of all.
Higher Together does not originate or sponsor activities. It supports what God has already established, rather than duplicating or re-creating. It seeks to reduce the duplication of effort already happening among churches.
Higher Together communicates Christian activities from around the county and helps facilitate the Body of believers to work together so that more people may know God's love for them and give more witness to our Father in Heaven!
Higher Together seeks to multiply the community impact of existing Christian ministries by involving other like-minded churches thereby loving Jesus and bringing praise to our Father in heaven.
Higher: "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Jesus' instruction in Matthew 5:14-16 NIV
Together: "May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." Jesus' prayer to Father from John 17:23b NIV
In the last Harford County census, 109,000 people indicated “none” when asked for their church affiliation. With BRAC about to bring 7000 new families into the county, the work of any one congregation just can’t have the impact that’s required. United together, the total impact of our efforts is much larger than the sum of our parts!
Jesus' compassionate heart is alive in His body, the church. We want to be known for extending hands of help and concern to a troubled world. Our Christianity is highly practical and we want to make a difference in our community. We see loving others by serving them as how we love and serve Jesus – Matthew 25:40. We live authentic Christian lives and our contagious enthusiasm points others to the attractiveness of Christ. But the world often sees our efforts as divided and fragmented.
Imagine if the Body of Christ could unite around common information so that all are making decisions from the same set of facts. All having the same picture of the Body of Christ in Harford County, seeing what is collectively being done and what collectively needs to be done. Each one determining the part they can and will play. Imagine the resources that would be freed up if each component wasn’t duplicating the ministry effort of others; a sort of ministry cooperative that utilized the resources throughout the Body focused on an opportunity to expand the Kingdom - more can be accomplished with less and His gifts better utilized. We need a vision of something bigger than ourselves and "our church." We need to release people from planning/organizing into peope-to-people ministry. Catch the vision. All who know Jesus as Savior and Lord joining together as brothers and sisters to work in the family business. Mobilization of all churches is the key to the sustained transformation of our county. In Christ, we are the only plan God has!
The call to facilitate the fullness of the Body of Christ working together is unique, In order to maintain focus, clarity and simplicity, we limit our networking to multiple Christian organizations working together inter-denominationally. To accomplish this, we can't accommodate individual congregational, denominational or fund-raising activities; even if they are open to everyone. Our unity needs to be demonstrated so the world will know He has sent His Son. Working together in the planning and execution is as important to the Lord as the outcome. He is Lord of the process as well as the result.
