Hope of the Homeless prepares for 2017-18 winter rotating homeless shelter.

Eleven years ago, before Welcome One Emergency Shelter was established, some Harford County churches volunteered to shelter adult homeless for one week during the winter.  The ERS program worked the same way this past winter, for 13 weeks of the coldest weather.

There is currently no low barrier shelter in Harford County for our homeless neighbors who can not get into Welcome One.  In the post, these neighbors were sheltered in motels when the temperatures dropped below freezing but no shelter is available on other snowy days and cold nights.  This is both a safety and health concern. 

With the ERS program, our homeless neighbors can be sheltered throughout the entire winter, not just when temperatures drop below freezing.  Since they are in a central location, services can be made available to them such as case management, health care, and caring support.
